If you’ve ever gone to church, you’ve probably heard an ‘amen’ during the preaching. To the naked ear that sounds like something you just say because you want to encourage the preacher, but I want to show you that the very reason we say ‘amen’ as believers goes so much deeper than that.
The dictionary describes the word ‘amen’ as the end of a prayer, meaning “so be it”. In a way, the dictionary isn’t completely wrong. The word ‘amen’ does mean “so be it”, or “let it be so”. What it doesn’t mean is, that’s where it ends. You see, when we pray we are operating in our God-given gift through Jesus to ask God to intervene in our lives and on our behalf. Obviously it doesn’t mean that what we’ve prayed for will instantly come to pass as soon as we say amen. Or in other words, it doesn’t mean that whatever you pray for is gonna happen. We have to pray God’s will, God’s way. The Bible says in 1 John 5:14 that when we pray according to God’s will, He hears us. Which means, that when we pray what’s not in God’s will, He ain’t listening. Bad grammar – but it’s the truth and we need to realize it.
It literally means that when we pray God’s will, God’s way, we enable Him to step into our life and answer our prayer and our petition. It is the very fuel that propels our prayer into the realm where God promised to answer.
Think of it like this. When you pray according to God’s will, your prayer is like a sail boat that you push into the sea. Your ‘amen’ powers it forward and sets in motion a definitive, spiritual reaction. With each prayer, prayed the right way, you’re putting the needed “wind in your sails” to get your boat to its desired destination. What I’m saying is this, your prayer works when you pray the right way. Every time you choose to agree with what God’s will states, you’re choosing to let Him move powerfully and bring it to fruition.
The other thing we have to realize is we don’t have to come to God as a beggar or someone who’s groveling and trying to bargain with Jesus likes its the pawn shop. The Bible says in Hebrews 4:16 that we as children of God should come boldly to the throne of grace. There we’ll receive His mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
What you should know is this. That our God is the absolute Amen (Revelation 3:14) and that He’s given us the amen, or the desired, ‘so be it’ for our peace and confidence in His promises (2 Corinthians 1:20). So, whenever or wherever you’re reading this – know that if you’re a follower of Jesus, you can choose to hand all of your cares and needs over to Him and rest in the certainty of “It is finished and let it be so”.
When you think of that and the awesomeness of all God has prepared for us, then you can rejoice and know that He loves you with an unfailing love. We can pray and conclude our prayer with the amen and ‘so be it’ of absolute victory. So, what are you believing for? No matter what it is – there’s NOTHING impossible with God. He’s able to do it and give you the very desires of your heart. Need someone to stand with you? Let’s connect and believe God for your victory!
